Every house has a way it wants to be lived in.
Our work begins the moment you walk in.
Rooms meant to be lived in — and loved.
Deeply personal. Enduringly beautiful.
Entirely yours.
We believe that home should be a reflection of who you are, how you live and what you love. Though every project is different, our goal is always the same: to create spaces that feel deeply personal, enduringly beautiful, and entirely yours.

Design is a sequence of decisions. Scroll to watch a single living room move through them — the chair, the wall, the table, the rug, the art.
Pale blue-grey walls, a cream sofa, a brass and glass table.
None of these is wrong. That is the point — and why the first thing we do is listen.
Elevated residential work across Pennsylvania and beyond — new builds, renovations, and houses given back their character.

Two ways in — whether you are building a house from the ground up or need one room resolved properly.

For large-scale projects needing full furnishing, new construction, or renovation. We collaborate with architects and builders and oversee the entire process, from construction to final styling. The result is a refined home tailored to how you live.

For clients who need help with individual spaces rather than the whole house — and for virtual design. Select rooms or pieces a la carte, with no required minimum. We design the space, source the furniture and accessories, and hand you a detailed plan to bring it to life.
Melissa Ewen is the founder and principal designer of Melissa Ewen Design. As the daughter of a military family, she spent her childhood moving every few years — an experience that instilled in her the notion that home is a place we create.
Before leading her design firm, Melissa was an attorney who spent over a decade consulting on mergers and acquisitions and organizational transformations. She developed a love of working with clients, understanding their needs and collaborating to create something new together, which she brings into her design work today. Years spent working in Europe still shape her aesthetic.
During the pandemic, with a new perspective and a motivation to prioritize joy, Melissa followed her true calling. After studying at the Rhode Island School of Design and completing projects for friends and family, she opened Melissa Ewen Design.
Melissa and her husband Kurt live in Sewickley with their two children and their dog, Lucy.
